The Bundesinstitut für Risikobewertung, whose remit includes analysing risks in the food production industry, is pretty certain that there is no risk at all from using aluminium cookware. The only thing the BfR recommends (and it is only a recommendation) is that because aluminium dissolves in acid and salts, you might want to avoid using aluminium cookware or foil when dealing with things like apple sauce, rhubarb, tomato purée and salted herrings.

There is no ban: it's a complete myth.
