When Britain first, at heaven's command arose from out the azure main

영국이 하늘에 의해 푸른 망망대해에서 솟아났을 때

This was a charter, a charter of the land  and guardian angels sang this strain;

그곳에 내려진 헌장 있었네, 그리고 수호천사들은 이 선율을 노래했네

Rule Britannia! Britannia rule the waves! Britains never - never - never shall be the slaves

지배하라 영국이여! 영국이 파도를 지배한다! 영국인은 절대 노예로 살지 않는다

2절

The nations, not so blest as thee must in their turns, to tyrants fall;

그대만큼 축복밭지 못한 국가들은 반드시 차례로 폭군에 의해 멸망할지니

While thou shalt flourish great and free, the dread and envy all of them

그대가 위대하고 자유롭게 번성할동안, 모두의 공포와 선망의 대상 될지니

Still more majestic shalt thou rise, more dredtful, from each forigen strike

여전히 위엄있게 일어설 그대여, 외세의 공격으로부터 더욱 강해지리

As the loud blast that tears the skies, serves but to root thy native oak

하늘을 찢을 천둥도, 그대 떡갈나무만 뿌리잡게 하리라

Thee haughty tyrants ne'er shall tame: all their attempts to bend thee down

폭군들도 그대를 절대 굴복시키지 못하리: 그대를 꺾으려는 모든 시도도 

Will but arouse thy generous flame; but work their woe, and thy renown

그대의 관대한 불꽃만 키우리라; 허나 그들의 고통을 어루만지라, 그대의 고명은 높아질테니

5절

To thee belongs the rural region; thy cities shall with commerce shine:

그대에게 농촌의 지배가 있으니; 그대의 도시는 상업으로 빛나리라:

All thine shall be the subject main, And every shore it circles thine

그대의 모든것은 본토의 속할지니, 전세계의 해한은 그대를 돌리라

6절

The Muses, still with freedom found, shall to thy happt coast repair

시신들이 여전히 자유를 찾는 곳, 그대의 행복한 해안으로 모인다

Blest Isle! With matchless beauty crown'd, and mainly hearts to guard the fair

축복받은 섬이여, 비교할 수 없는 미를 받은 곳, 남자다운 마음으로 지킨다.
